Frequently Asked Questions

Who are we?
A small group of filmmakers and artists.

Why do we do this?
Mostly for the love of short movies. We think that most film festivals are stuffy affairs. We wanted to create a film/video festival that was more fun than business. Our motto could be "Why have an after show party, when the whole show is a party."

What are the submission date?
We start accepting submissions in January.  We stop accepting them at the end of April.

What do we want in a short?
Something interesting, under 15 minutes long. We have very eclectic tastes (as do our customers) so we're ready for anything as long as it holds our attention. We do not have a specific genre that we cater to (except for the length) because we like to show a diverse product to a diverse crowd.

Why don't we charge a submission fee?
Frankly, because We think submission fees are BULLSHIT!
You've invested a lot of money and time in your project already.

When are the shows?
The second Monday in June, July and August. It rains too much the other months of the year to be outside.

How do we do it?
We still don't really know, but a lot of hard work seems to pay off.

How many people come?
We average about 300 per show. Depends on the weather (i.e. good weather means more people).

What do I (the filmmaker) get out of this?
Well aside from the free drinks you receive at the show, you get to come and show your film in a relaxed, fun, low pressured place that some weekly papers have described as the hippest bar in San Francisco's Mission district.

Are there any prizes?
Nope, we have no sponsors, whatsoever. So we have nothing to give away. We are completely independent of outside influences, which we feel makes our programming much more interesting.

What is Beer-O-Scope?
A secret projection technique involving projectors, white painted walls outside and beer. It has the effect of making every film or video an award winning masterpiece.

Are we serious?
Yes, We like good movies and seriously don't think there is enough time to show them all.
