ZIFF 36 Hour Film Experiment

ZIFF36 is an experiment in extreme filmmaking. On the morning of the Aug 12 event, we will meet at the Zeitgeist at 10AM . At this time, we will announce a list of ingredients that all teams must include in their movie. Teams have will have 36 hours to complete a movie with those ingredients. Teams disperse to make their movies and return by 10PM Sunday Night, August 13th. The accepted films will be screened Monday Night August 14th as part of the Zeitgeist International Film Festival.

that night will receive $100 in drink tokens in a very nice pint glass.

GENERAL RULES
In general, we keep the rules simple. The teams will be chosen on a first applied, first chosen basis. Outside of the guidelines in this document, teams make their own decisions and use their own resources to finish their movie on time.

DEPOSIT
Deposit? Why? We normally don’t charge a submission fee. This time we are asking for a deposit. As there will be a limited number of groups allowed to participate we don’t want anyone who isn’t serious about this. So we ask for a deposit. You will get the deposit back on Saturday when you show up at the ingredient party.

TURNING IN YOUR WORK
To qualify, a film must contain all of the ingredients disclosed at the beginning of the competition, and each film must be between 4 and 8 minutes in length, including titles, and be completed and turned in before the deadline announced at the Kick-off.

SUBMISSION
The final product should be turned in on either:
On the BEGINNING OF A NEW, BLANK, STANDARD Mini-DV TAPE cued to the beginning of the tape. Label the tape with the following information;

Your team name
Contact phone number and email
Make sure this information is on the label physically stuck to the tape.
Please make sure no other footage is on the submission tape. We will not return submission tapes.

Or, A DVD -R, or DVD+R with a first play main menu, press play to play short button and end jump to the main menu. The DVD should be labeled with the following information;

Your team name
Contact phone number and email
Make sure this information is on the label physically written on the DVD.
We will not return submission DVD’s.

PROGRAM ORDER
The order of appearance of each qualify entry will be chosen by a random drawing by the ZIFF Director. The order will not be changed after it has been determined. No whiners.

CONTEST
The winner of the coveted ‘PINT OF DRINK TOKENS’ (Value ≈ $100-) will be determined by an audience ballot. The qualifying entry that receives the most votes will win the prize. In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by a majority decision by the Director, Sound Man and Chief Security Officer from the tying entries. Final decision will be final.

CENSORSHIP
We will not censor movies unless we deem them likely to incite violence or get us in trouble with the law. However, filmmakers should consider the diversity of their audience in making creative decisions. “Hate” films will not be shown.

PARTICIPANTS
While we don’t suggest it’s impossible to do this yourself, we suggest you get a group together and ready to go before the event. We have found the group dynamic adds to the fun and stress level.
